Weston U14s Match Report

On Sunday Weston U14s saw Hertford visiting The Fortress for their third

consecutive fixture. Hertford won the toss opting to kick the ball with Weston playing

downhill in the first half. Hertford came at Weston hard and fast from the very start

with some big carries and some very quick backs putting pressure on the wings

looking for space. A huge performance from Bobby on the wing saw him shutting

down most of Hertford’s attack that ventured onto his side of the pitch. Weston

pushed back showing their own strengths and challenging Hertford in the middle of

the field, making them work for every inch of possession. Hertford were very adept at

stripping the ball in the tackle and moving it away from the contact area leaving the

Weston pack chasing the game a little, and ultimately the quick dispersal of the ball

lead to Hertford opening the scoring. Hertford continued in the same fashion, utilising

their speedy back line to find gaps in the Weston defence, scoring a brace of tries

before the halftime whistle.

Weston u14s came out in the second half strong and pushed Hertford around the

field, showing the strength in our front eight, but a very quick Hertford back line made

it very hard for the backs to show much flair before the tackler was on them. A

change in personnel saw the introduction of Dylan into the back line who’s tackling

prowess and aggression in closing the gap had supporters on the side line likening

him to an Exocet missile, and he kept throwing in big dominating tackles that

Courtney Lawes or Sebastian Chabal would have been proud of! Likewise a brilliant

chase down from fullback Jake to make a try saving tackle just fired the Weston lads

up more and spurred them to up their game. They continued to fight and push on,

Hertford score another few tries to put the game out of reach, but the young

Westoners never let their heads drop and kept fighting to the very end, being

rewarded with a try from scrumhalf, Ollie who picked and went blind from the 10-

metre line and sprinted downfield to touch down in the corner. Final score 5-45 to

Hertford

Man of the Match was awarded to Bobby, who had a great performance on the wing,

making some huge tackles and some great breaks, this lad just continues to grow

week in, week out and impress the coaching team, well done Bobby!

Next week Weston youth are training,
