Weston U14 Match Report - Twickenham

On a sunny Sunday, Weston U14s embarked on their journey to Twickenham for their inaugural league game of the season. The team started their day bright and early, coming out of the gate with immense energy and determination. From the very beginning, Weston displayed a fierce offensive push, swiftly stifling any attempts by Twickenham to breach their territory.

Notably, Weston's dominance in the scrums was truly remarkable, with the Warriors winning an astonishing 90% of the scrums. Hooker Charlie's exceptional performance included pilfering the opposition's ball repeatedly, rendering it a sight to behold. Despite a somewhat overzealous referee intermittently disrupting the game's flow, Weston spent the majority of the first half asserting their dominance.

However, as the match progressed, the team's confidence began to waver, allowing Twickenham to capitalize on their disarray. A swift break by Twickenham's full-back led to the opponents opening the scoring. The remainder of the first half continued in a similar vein, with Weston striving to advance into the try zone but encountering stout defense and a meticulous referee. Twickenham managed to score a second time before the halftime whistle, although they were unable to convert the opportunities.

The second half proved to be a challenging endeavor for the Weston youth. Frustration mounted as the game's tide turned against them, causing the team to lose focus. Twickenham seized the opportunity and added a couple more tries to their score, capitalizing on Weston's turmoil. Nevertheless, Weston displayed remarkable determination and resilience. Their perseverance paid off when Twickenham, in a moment of panic, conceded several penalties, and a thunderous run from flanker Lee resulted in a try, with Harry successfully adding the extra points. The game concluded shortly thereafter, marking a disappointing day for Weston, leaving the team frustrated and disheartened but determined to learn and grow from this experience.

Special mentions were made for Harley, who had an outstanding game both offensively and defensively, and Jonah, who demonstrated exceptional adaptability by transitioning from the second row to the wing, where he became an impenetrable wall of defense. Lee, who played an exceptional game and never gave up, was awarded the Man of the Match, scoring a well-deserved try.

Looking ahead, the team acknowledged that the coming week would be dedicated to training and improvement. Despite the disappointment, they remained resolute in their commitment to progress and strive for better results in future matches.
